Appearance
Bear is on the larger side for a newfoundland, measuring 2' 11" (89 cm) tall at the shoulder (that's the only measurement I could find for newfies) and weighing 180 lbs.
His shaggy coat is dark grey, almost black, with lighter grey around his muzzle that runs down his chest, under his belly, and down the bottom of his tail. His eyes are periwinkle.
For his gear, Bear wears a green bucket hat and a leather towing harness with metal rings, both of which he rarely takes off.
Personality
Bear is a quiet dog that's been having some trouble adjusting to pack life after living in the Oure mountains for all his life. He loves being helpful and will jump at the chance to put his strength to work.
He's very loyal to those who he trusts, and he works hard to be dependable.
Due to his isolated upbringing, everything is new and strange to him. He's reluctant to ask questions, which leads to him misunderstanding and occasionally judging other canines for behaviors others don't even think about.
He's rather introverted and needs time to himself, otherwise he may react poorly (getting frustrated, shutting down, etc) to ordinary things.

Familiar
Jade | Pacific Black Duck | she/her
Jade glows blue-green, the same color as her striking blue-green flight feathers. She is a lady and expects to be treated as such. Her confidence pairs well with Bear's reluctance to bother others. She can be very petty, and she does hold grudges, but she will only goad Bear into acting if there is a legitimate issue (well. she'll try, just not very hard). She usually notices when Bear needs to leave a situation before Bear himself does, and tries her best to help him navigate a social world.
History
Bear was born during a blizzard, deep in the Oure mountains, in the dead of winter. He faintly remembers his family laying around him, trying to protect him from the deadly cold.
It's one of the few memories he still has of his parents. One day when he was very young, they just disappeared, leaving Bear and his sister Harbor to fend for themselves.
For almost three years it was just the two of them, making do deep in the mountains. Newfoundlands are very naturally sturdy dogs, but as Bear grew, so did his strength, surpassing Harbor, who was bigger than him.
Two winters after Bear was born, another bad blizzard hit the mountains. He and Harbor lay side by side, burrowed into each others fur, trying to keep each other warm. On the third morning of the storm,
Bear woke to find the storm gone and his sister cold. He left those mountains the next day.
